Volunteers make a difference! Join our team and be part of something great. We need your help to offer great programs and events, and you can gain valuable experience and give back to the community.

Vacation Programs
The School Breaks offer a great opportunity to volunteer and work with the youth of South Burlington. We offer all day programs in October, November, December, February and April. The program is offered from 8:00am-5:00pm. Volunteers are welcomed- mornings from 8:30-12:30, afternoons from 12:30-4:40 or all day 8:30am-4:30pm
Playground Program
The Playground Program is offered in the summer for six weeks in July and August. The program is from 9:00am-12:00pm, Monday- Friday. Volunteers are encouraged to give on a weekly basis to the program, or we can also work out a daily schedule for the entire program.
Youth Sports Programs
We offer a variety of sports programs for ages 4- 14. Volunteers can assist in a clinic or help a parent coach with a team in one of our youth leagues. We offer sports programs in soccer, basketball, gymnastics, cheerleading, lacrosse, tennis and track & field. For adults that are looking to coach a youth team with us, see the Coaching Tab above.
Other
There are a variety of other youth programs that we can set volunteers up in to assist Program Leaders with.
How to get started
To begin the process of becoming a volunteer- Print off the Volunteer Application, Fill it out and mail or return it to the Recreation Office at 575 Dorset Street.
Applicants will be notified for an interview and orientation. All accepted volunteers are required to go through an extensive criminal and abuse registry background check.

Youth Sports Leagues
We have volunteer coaches in our youth soccer and basketball leagues. Coaches are needed for our 1st-6th grade leagues in soccer and 1st- 8th grade leagues in basketball. Our leagues are set up in each sport with two grades together- 1st/2nd, 3rd/4th, 5th/6th and 7th/8th. We also have separate leagues for boys and girls in each sport.

Applicants will be notified for an interview and orientation. All accepted volunteers are required to go through an extensive criminal and abuse registry background check. There is also mandatory coaches training for each sport.

Autumn Fest- September
Come celebrate the Fall Season with family and friends. Volunteers are needed to run activities, man the food concession and help with set up and take down. All events take place at Dorset Park near the bandshell.
Pumpkins in the Park- October
Join us for our Annual Pumpkins in the Park event and help us carve pumkins. It is a great way to kick-off the Halloween Weekend. All you need is a little imagination and a lot of carving enthusiasm. We will supply the carvers, stencils, markers, and decorations. Pumpkins will be used in our Pumpkin Walk at the Halloween Celebration.
Halloween Celebration- October
Come dressed in your favorite costume to volunteer with the many games and activities that we offer during this event. We need help with our Pumpkin Walk, Halloween Carnival Games, Arts & Crafts, Bingo, and much more.
Winter Fest- Outdoor Winter Fun Day- January
Volunteer to help out in an afternoon of Snowshoeing, Outdoor Winter Games, Sleigh Rides, a Storybook Trek, Winter Tracking Tours, and a whole lot more! All activities are held outdoors at Red Rocks Park.
Annual Father/Daughter Dance- February
We need lots of volunteers to help with set up and decorating the day of. The Father/Daughter Dance is festive event that includes refreshments, gifts, picture taking, special prize giveaways, and dancing.

- High School Students must be 16 years of age or older at the time of employment.
- 9th & 10th graders that are not yet 16 may volunteer in our programs. This is a great opportunity to gain experience and showcase your talents for possible future employment with our Department.
Career Development Center:
We work closely with the CDC at SBHS. Any of our programs may be worked into a CDC program. This is a great opportunity to gain school and community credit, while having fun working with children. Senior Challenge:
Students in the past have designed projects that have included Recreation for School credits. We would invite anyone to meet and discuss with us a possible project or a way we could help support your project.
Community Service:
Community service can be incorporated into any one of our programs. Especially our Halloween Celebration, Winter Outdoor Family Day, Father/Daughter Dance, Mother/Son Event, plus more...
