Family Wall Crawlers- Ages 6 & up
Are the kids climbing the walls? If so, bring them where this is the thing to do! Wall Crawlers is an- introductory program to climbing. This one night program consists of belay instruction for parents, while children practice their climbing skills in the bouldering area, then share in climbing together. Offered in the Winter. Family Fishing Clinic- Ages 6 & up
Sign up the family today for this “Let’s Go Fishing Clinic. We will travel to a nearby pond and receive basic instructions and fishing techniques. Everyone will have the opportunity to fish. Transportation Provided. Offered in the Fall. Instructor: Karl Hubbard. This is a parent/Child program.
Family Rock Climbing- Ages 10 & up
Enjoy outdoor rock climbing with the entire family. Come challenge yourself and family and learn to work as a team. Offered in the Fall. Instructors: Outdoor Climbing professionals. This is a parent /child program.
Family Kayak Clinic- Ages 10 & up
Is your family looking to get out and play on the water? If so, join us for an evening of basic instruction and touring on Lake Champlain. You will learn the basics of paddling and boat control and enjoy a tour along the shores of the lake. We use single and tandem recreational kayaks. Offered in the Summer. Instructors: Rec. Staff. This is a parent/child program
Family Kayak Outing- Ages 10 & up
Enjoy a day paddling on a VT river. If you are an experienced paddler, not a trip for new paddlers, or have taken our kayak clinic in the past, join us as we embark on a day on the river. Transportation included. Offered in the Fall. Instructors: Rec. Staff. This is a parent/child program.
Family SCUBA Clinic- Ages 12 & up
TRY SCUBA is an introductory clinic in Scuba diving. Certified Scuba Instructors will teach proper equipment usage and diving techniques through a shallow dive in Lake Champlain. All equipment is provided. Offered in the Summer. Instructors: Waterfront Diving Center. This is a parent/child program. *Note: Anyone with asthma or other respiratory diseases cannot participate due to the breathing apparatus used.
Babysitters Courses- Ages 10 & up
Join this interactive class on the basics of babysitting. The course includes safety and safe play, basic care, first aid, leadership, and professionalism. Each participant will receive a workbook, emergency guide and a CD of useful tools. Offered in the Fall, Winter and Spring. Instructor: Certified ARC instructor.
Boater Safety Course- Ages 12 & Older
Recreation & Parks in conjunction with the VT State Police, offers a Boater Safety Course. The course is open to all youth, teens & adults (12 years of age and older). The course is 8 hours and is offered in 4 days. Participants must be present at all sessions to be eligible for certification. The course is mandatory for any person, born after January 1, 1974, who will be operating a motorboat on VT waters. Offered in the Spring. Instructor: John Fick
Snowmobile Safety Course- Ages 12 & up
Recreation & Parks in conjunction with the VT State Police, offers a Snowmobile Safety Course. The 6-hour course is offered in three evening sessions. Participants must be present for all classes in order to be eligible for certification. The VT State law requires all snowmobile operators born after July 1, 1983 to take and pass a snowmobile safety course. Offered in the Winter. Instructor: VT State Police
SAT Bootcamp- 10th-12th Grades
This interactive workshop is designed to maximize SAT performance by understanding the test, learning proven test strategies, and creating a personal study plan. Critical Reading, Writing, and Math sections are covered. Offered in the Fall. Instructors: Lauren Starkey & Karen Needler.
R.A.D. - Rape Aggression Defense Systems- Ages 16 & up (Females Only)
Learn how to protect yourself in this realistic self-defense tactics and techniques class for women. Learn awareness, prevention, risk reduction and risk avoidance. R.A.D. is not a Martial Arts program. Offered in the Fall. Instructors: SB Police Dept., National Certified R.A.D. Instructors.
Tween Soccer Leagues- 5th & 6th Grades
Separate girls and boys leagues are offered. This league is a travel league, as we play other recreation departments in the area. This league is great for all abilities. If your child loves to play soccer and cannot get enough, this league will provide them the opportunity to play with other South Burlington children in a fun, relaxing atmosphere where they can improve their skills and make new friends. Offered in the Fall. Parent volunteers are recruited to coach teams.
Tween Basketball Leagues- 5th & 6th Grade
Separate girls and boys leagues are offered. This league is a travel league, as we play other recreation departments in the area. This league is great for all abilities. Teen Basketball League- Boys 7th & 8th Grade
Each year we offer a 7th & 8th grade league for Boys who are looking for a recreational league or those that might not otherwise make the school team. This league, like the 5th & 6th grade league, travels to local Recreation Departments for games. There is also a tournament at the end of the season. This is a great opportunity to play basketball and receive equal playing time while doing it. Offered in the Winter. Parent volunteers are recruited to coach teams.
Cheerleading Clinic- Grades 1st-6th
Does your child love to Jump and Cheer? If so, then they will love this cheerleading clinic. Creative dance moves and low level stunts will be taught. Participants will be grouped by grade and experience. No uniform or special equipment is needed. Offered in the Spring. Instructor: Lynn Kynoch, High School Varsity Coach. This program is Coed.
Adventure Programs- 4th-6th Grades
Adventure Programs are offered in the Fall and Winter during the school breaks. The adventure programs are typically two days of outdoor fun and adventure. We enjoy what the season has to offer during. Games, teambuilding, and other fun activities will be offered. Offered in the Fall and Winter. Instructor: Rec. Staff
Drama In A Day- 4th-8th Grades
Come one, come all for a zany and fast paced day of creating and performing a group play. Our day begins with theatre games and then we’re off to creating and writing a script. We will then practice and rehearse. Our day will end with our opening night performance! Offered in the Fall & Winter. Instructor: Rhonda Freed
