Family Wall Crawlers- Ages 6 & up
Are the kids climbing the walls? If so, bring them where this is the thing to do! Wall Crawlers is an- introductory program to climbing. This one night program consists of belay instruction for parents, while children practice their climbing skills in the bouldering area, then share in climbing together. Offered in the Winter. Family Fishing Clinic- Ages 6 & up
Sign up the family today for this “Let’s Go Fishing Clinic. We will travel to a nearby pond and receive basic instructions and fishing techniques. Everyone will have the opportunity to fish. Transportation Provided. Offered in the Fall. Instructor: Karl Hubbard. This is a parent/Child program.
Family Rock Climbing- Ages 10 & up
Enjoy outdoor rock climbing with the entire family. Come challenge yourself and family and learn to work as a team. Offered in the Fall. Instructors: Outdoor Climbing professionals. This is a parent /child program.
Family Kayak Clinic- Ages 10 & up
Is your family looking to get out and play on the water? If so, join us for an evening of basic instruction and touring on Lake Champlain. You will learn the basics of paddling and boat control and enjoy a tour along the shores of the lake. We use single and tandem recreational kayaks. Offered in the Summer. Instructors: Rec. Staff. Family Kayak Outing- Ages 10 & up
Enjoy a day paddling on a VT river. If you are an experienced paddler, not a trip for new paddlers, or have taken our kayak clinic in the past, join us as we embark on a day on the river. Transportation included. Offered in the Fall. Instructors: Rec. Staff. This is a parent/child program.
Soccer Programs- K-6th
KinderPro’s Soccer- Kindergarten.
This program is designed to teach the basic rules and fundamentals of the game of soccer. Youngsters will be provided with the opportunity to learn, practice, and develop their individual skills. We begin with a one day clinic of skills and rules. Players are then placed on teams and the remaining sessions are 20 minute practices followed by 30 minute scrimmages, both are used to teach and develop individual skills and game play. Offered in the Fall. Parent volunteers are need in this league
Jr. Soccer Leagues- 1st & 2nd Grades.
Separate girls and boys leagues are offered. The league provides participants with an opportunity to continue to learn the game of soccer, improve on their individual skills, and enjoy playing the game while making new friends. The league meets twice a week for 1 hour each time. Offered in the Fall. Parent volunteers are recruited to coach teams.
Youth Soccer Leagues- 3rd & 4th Grades.
Separate Girls and Boys leagues are offered. This league is our next progression of Rec. Soccer. Participants in this league will have the opportunity to learn and improve their individual soccer skills, as well as begin working on teamwork and cooperative play. This league meets twice a week for an hour each time. Offered in the Fall. Parent volunteers are recruited to coach teams.

Separate girls and boys leagues are offered. This league is a travel league, as we play other recreation departments in the area. This league is great for all abilities. If your child loves to play soccer and cannot get enough, this league will provide them the opportunity to play with other South Burlington children in a fun, relaxing atmosphere where they can improve their skills and make new friends. These programs are designed for all youngsters who enjoy the game of soccer, with the major emphasis on exercise and fun. Each program will begin with a clinic on the first day; covering rules, team assignments, and schedules. Remaining sessions will consist of one hour games, twice a week. Cheerleading Clinic- Grades 1st-6th
Does your child love to Jump and Cheer? If so, then they will love this cheerleading clinic. Creative dance moves and low level stunts will be taught. Participants will be grouped by grade and experience. No uniform or special equipment is needed. Offered in the Spring. Instructor: Lynn Kynoch, High School Varsity Coach. This program is Coed.
Gymnastics Programs- Grades K-5th
Does your child love to jump, tumble and roll? If so, they will want to join us and explore climbing, tumbling, balancing and basic body movement in this basic gymnastics program. They will have the opportunity to try floor exercises and use basic gymnastics equipment. Separate programs are offered for K-2nd and 3rd-5th. Offered in the Spring. Instructors: Rec. Staff
Lacrosse Clinic- Grades K-2nd
This coed program will give your child the skills to be a better player. This clinic is designed to teach and develop basic lacrosse skills. The major emphasis is on having fun while learning the game of lacrosse. Equipment provided, but you may bring your own stick. Offered in the Spring. Instructors: Rec. Staff
Youth Tennis Programs- Grades 1st-8th
Quick Start Lessons- Completing grades 1st-2nd. Smaller and lighter equipment, courts and balls make this level easier for the younger player. Basic tennis skills will be taught and developed. All equipment is supplied. Offered in the Summer and Fall. Instructors: Rec. Staff
Youth Tennis Clinics- Completing grades 3rd-6th. Beginner & Advanced Beginner lessons will include skill development and fun games to develop the backhand, forehand, and volleying skills. Short sided games are played. Offered in the Summer and Spring. Instructors: Rec. Staff.
Tween Play Tennis- Completing grades 5th-8th . This program is for the Advanced Beginner or Intermediate who wants to improve their skills and game play. You will work on performance and game strategy while playing more tennis. Offered in Summer and Spring. Instructors: Rec. Staff
Youth Track & Field- Ages 7-14 yrs
Youngsters will receive training in both track and field events. Fee includes a team shirt and all entry fees for the track meets. Dual meets will also be scheduled throughout the summer with other area Recreation Departments. Age- based on age as of December 31, of the current year. The program is held Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and is offered in mid June thru July.
Youth Golf Lessons- Ages 5-11 yrs
The golf lessons offered at Catamount Golf Center focus on the set-up, grip and making a full swing hitting the golf ball. Clubs can be provided if needed. Offered in the Spring and Summer. Instructor: Lou Jarvis, PGA Golf Professional
Learn to Swim Program- Ages 5-12 years
The Learn to Swim Program introduces swimming techniques and increases safety skills around the water. The lessons follow the Red Cross guidelines and each level provides a building block for the next. Levels 1-4 will be offered at The Edge of South Burlington. Lessons are 1/2 hour for 6 weeks and are offered on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Saturdays. 6 Sessions are offered September thru June. Instructors: Certified Swimming instructors of The Edge.
Group Skating Lessons- Ages 6 & up
Recreation & Parks and The VT Skating Club are teaming up to offer Basic Skills Skating Lessons at Cairns Arena. The classes are designed by U.S. Figure Skating. It is the best beginning ice skating program that serves the needs of both the recreational and competitive skaters. Lessons are 1/2 hour followed by a 1/2 hour supervised practice time. Offered 3 times a year in the Fall, Winter and Spring. Instructors: VT Skating Club, Certified PSA & USFA
Intro to Taekwondo- Ages 7-12
A mixture of taekwondo training, self-defense and leadership skills taught in a fun, high energy environment. The kids will participate in a combination of traditional martial arts training, fun group games and team-based physical challenges. Offered in the Fall and Spring. Vacation Programs- K-5th Grades
Our Vacation Programs are a fun, safe place for children to spend their school break. Activities include indoor and outdoor games, arts & crafts, and special themed activities. You can sign your child up for all days of each school vacation or sign them up for a daily option. We also offer early and late options for an extra cost. Early drop-off is from 7:30-8:00am and late pick up is from 5:00-5:30pm. Vacation Programs are offered 5 times a year during the school breaks- 2 days in October, 3 days in November and the Holiday breaks in December, February and April. Instructors: Rec. Staff
Adventure Programs- 4th-6th Grades
Adventure Programs are offered in the Fall and Winter during the school breaks. The adventure programs are typically two days of outdoor fun and adventure. Drama In A Day- 4th-8th Grades
Come one, come all for a zany and fast paced day of creating and performing a group play. Our day begins with theatre games and then we’re off to creating and writing a script. We will then practice and rehearse. Our day will end with our opening night performance! Offered in the Fall & Winter. Instructor: Rhonda Freed
Babysitters Courses- Ages 10 & up
Join this interactive class on the basics of babysitting. The course includes safety and safe play, basic care, first aid, leadership, and professionalism. Each participant will receive a workbook, emergency guide and a CD of useful tools. Offered in the Fall, Winter and Spring. Instructor: Certified ARC instructor.
Rec. S.M.I.L.I.E. Trips- Super Mega Incredible Lively Indoor Excursions. 1st-5th Grades
Your child will want to “Rec” the rest of their day with us on these half day early dismissal trips. We’ll hop on the S.M.I.L.I.E. Van and enjoy and afternoon of fun! We pickup children at their school and parent pick up is at 5:30pm at City Hall. Fees include bag lunch and activity fees. Offered on half days of school. Instructors: Rec. Staff.
